TxDOT is preparing for a winter storm by pretreating roads with brine and increasing their fleet of snowplows and blades, while urging drivers to avoid the roads and give plenty of room to emergency vehicles and TxDOT crews.

With the possibility of wintry precipitation later in the week, transportation departments for the states of Texas and Arkansas are treating highways with brine.

Cold weather will move into East Texas this week, and Texas Department of Transportation crews have been preparing the region’s roadways for winter weather.

TxDOT is taking steps to prepare North Texas roads for potential winter weather. FOX 4's Amelia Jones also caught up with North Texans looking to warm up for the cold snap.

With brine dispersed on bridges, overpasses, and major roads, and crews on standby through the weekend, officials from the Nashville Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure (NDOT) said they're ready for the upcoming winter weather.

TxDOT began treating heavily traveled roadways in Austin on Monday, spraying brine on the pavement. Brine is a mix of water and salt that prevents ice and snow from sticking to the highway. TxDOT officials are warning drivers that just because the roads are treated doesn't mean they will be passable.
