As CJI Khanna's tenure commences, the Collegium will comprise Justices BR Gavai, Surya Kant, Hrishikesh Roy and Abhay S Oka. Through the half-year tenure of Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna that begins on November 11, the composition of the Supreme Court Collegium will not see too many changes.

Sanjiv Khanna will serve as the Chief Justice of India for a tenure of six months and he is expected to retire on May 13, 2025.

Justice Sanjiv Khanna was on Monday sworn in as the 51st Chief Justice of India. President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath of office to him at a brief swearing-in ceremony held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday extended best wishes to Justice Sanjiv Khanna after he was sworn-in as the 51st Chief Justice of India, and noted that the position would place a lot of weight on his shoulders due to the extensive scrutiny and expectations that the office brings with it.

Justice Khanna was sworn in on. He was recommended by his predecessor CJI DY Chandrachud. Justice Khanna will retire on May 13, 2025, after serving over six months as head of the judiciary.

As Supreme Court judge, Justice Khanna has been part of several landmark judgments including the ones of electoral bonds, abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir and more.

Justice Sanjiv Khanna, the second-most senior judge of the Supreme Court, was proposed for the role of Chief Justice by the outgoing CJI DY Chandrachud. Justice Sanjiv Khanna was sworn in as the 51st Chief Justice of India on Monday.
